2012 MVP: Gramps Cohane
William Cohane, a.k.a Gramps, had a resurgence this past April and established himself among the shuffleboard elite. Following the tournament expansion in 2011, Gramps joined The Sleepers with eldest daughter Kathleen Chunias as his teammate. They came into the tournament in their inaugural season as the 7 seed, and failed to win a game. The team was distraught following the tournament and Gramps decided to take it upon himself to righ the ship. As the 2012 season approached, Gramps trained vigorously and drastically improved his game. He helped to lead The Sleepers to a shocking 75-66 victory over the eventual champions, Team Irish, in the first round of the 2012 invitational. Following a close loss to The McCarthy Special, Gramps managed to keep The Sleepers alive by defeating Smug Alert before finally Team Irish exacted its revenge and eliminated them. Despite the fourth place finish, Gramps' stellar play in 2012 led him to become tournament MVP and a new star in the shuffleboard world.
2011 MVP: Stephen Chunias
After winning the inaugural shuffleboard invitational, Stephen Chunias and Team Med were looking to continue their dominance in the expanded 2011 tournament. However, the team faced a crushing setback when Chunias had to undergo rotator cuff surgery on his shooting shoulder following a minor car crash in December. With the fate of Team Med hanging in the balance, Stephen managed to recover enough to play in the 2011 tournament, and led his team to an unbeaten tournament culminating in Team Med's second straight championship. His courageous recovery form injury and dominating play on he court led him to be named the 2011 MVP.
2010 MVP: George iacono
Although the 2010 Shuffleboard Invitational was the first of its kind, and only featured two teams, Team Med and Team Irish, George Iacono clearly stood above all other competitors. In the original best two out of three tournament format, Iacono dominated the first game, and rallied Team Med to a championship in game three after a tough second game loss.
